  • What is driver CPC?

    The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) is a qualification for professional PCV and HGV Drivers, it has been introduced with the aim of improving road safety and maintaining high standards within the transport industry.

  • Do I need CPC?

    If you will be driving a vehicle that is over 3.5 tonnes or holding over 9 passengers and will receive a payment for doing so, then yes you do need a CPC. However, there are some specific exceptions, contact us if you are unsure.

  • Can I complete my Driver CPC Training Online?

    Yes. Since Covid 19, DVSA has permitted Driver CPC Training to be delivered in a virtual classroom. We deliver our Driver CPC Training via Zoom. It is a convenient and easy way to get the training you need from the comfort of your own home or office. You will need internet access and a PC, laptop, tablet or a smartphone with a working camera and microphone. You can find out the minimal requirements for Zoom at https://support.zoom.us

  • How do I log on to Zoom?

    Once you’ve booked onto one of our courses, we will send you a link via email the night before your course is scheduled. This will also contain your meeting ID and Password to get into the Zoom meeting.

  • How much training do I need to do?

    You must do 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to keep your Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) to drive a PCV and HGV.

    You can be fined up to £1,000 for driving professionally without Driver CPC!

  • What happens if I do not obtain my 35 hours before the deadline date?

    You will not be able to drive professionally for a living. If you are caught driving without the required training, you may face legal action and a fine of up to £1,000 for the driver but also additional fines for their employers.

  • What happens if I experience technical issues during my online course?

    If you are having technical difficulties then try and log on with a different device, we can catch you up on 15 minutes of the course at the end. In case of longer absence, you may have to reschedule the training.

  • Can I complete Driver CPC if I do not have a UK driving licence?

    The Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has a system for those drivers with a non-UK licence to obtain a driver qualification card (DQC) in the UK. Only those drivers holding such licences, and who have completed part (i.e., at least seven hours) or all their periodic training in the UK, are eligible to apply.

    You must also live and work in the UK and have a driving licence from an EU country or Gibraltar, Guernsey, Iceland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.

    To apply you must obtain application form DQC1 by sending an email to customerservices@dvsa.gov.uk. Put 'Driver CPC enquiry' in the subject line.

  • What should I do if the card does not arrive?

    Once the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) has been uploaded then allow 20 working days for the card to arrive to the address that your license is registered. Alternatively, you can contact the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) in the following ways:

  • Do I need to carry my DQC card?

    It is a legal requirement that you carry this card with you when you are driving professionally. Failure to produce your DQC card can result in a fine.

  • What is a split course?

    Split courses are a more comfortable way of achieving your 7 hours training as the length of the course is more manageable and can fit into your schedule easier. The courses are held in the evening and are split over two consecutive days. Both days must be attended to count towards your 35 hours.
